  • Energy Future Holdings and Its Employees Raise $120,000 for Red Cross Japan Relief Efforts

Donation given on behalf of corporate partner Mitsubishi to help provide critical resources in Japan

In support of continuing relief efforts following Japan’s devastating earthquake and tsunami, Energy Future Holdings and its employees recently raised more than $120,000 for the American Red Cross Japan Earthquake and Pacific Tsunami Fund.

Given on behalf of EFH’s partner Mitsubishi, the collection began soon after the disaster occurred, with EFH pledging an initial donation and committing to match all employee donations to the Red Cross. EFH, Luminant, TXU Energy and Oncor employees all contributed to the effort and quickly exceeded the company’s fundraising goal.

“Our employees’ generosity, empathy and commitment to helping others is unwavering and that is something in which I take great pride,” said John Young, EFH CEO. “It’s our hope that this contribution will help provide immediate assistance and long-term support for the millions impacted by Japan’s recent disaster.”

As of mid-April, the American Red Cross has committed a total of $100 million in relief to the Japanese Red Cross.

“The support we have received has enabled the American Red Cross to be one of the largest, private contributors for Japan’s recovery,” said Cheryl Sutterfield-Jones, American Red Cross Dallas Area Chapter CEO. “EFH’s donation will go long way in helping to continue Red Cross work in Japan for emergency health care, relief distributions and early relief programs in the coming weeks and months.”

About Energy Future Holdings
EFH is a Dallas-based holding company engaged in competitive and regulated energy market activities, primarily in Texas. Its portfolio of competitive businesses consists primarily of TXU Energy, a retail electricity provider with approximately 2 million customers in Texas, and Luminant, which is engaged largely in power generation and related mining activities, wholesale power marketing and energy trading. Luminant has approximately 15,400 MW of generation in Texas, including 2,300 MW fueled by nuclear power and 8,000 MW fueled by coal. Luminant is also the largest purchaser of wind-generated electricity in Texas and fifth largest in the United States. EFH’s regulated operations consist of Oncor, which operates the largest electricity distribution and transmission system in Texas with more than three million delivery points and 118,000 miles of distribution and transmission lines. While EFH indirectly owns approximately 80 percent of Oncor, the management of Oncor reports to a separate board with a majority of directors that are independent from EFH.
