  • Comanche Peak Nuclear Power Plant Donating $100,000 to Counties in Support of Emergency Preparedness Activities
11.10.2014 Written by

DALLAS – Luminant’s Comanche Peak Nuclear Power Plant is donating $50,000 each to Hood and Somervell Counties to go toward emergency preparedness activities. The donations will be formally made during this week’s commissioners court meetings.

“These are the types of donations that just make sense and are a perfect fit for us,”said Rafael Flores, Luminant’s chief nuclear officer. “Safety and community are two of the four tenets of our company and the basis for how we operate.”

The donations are part of Comanche Peak’s commitment to continuing its long-standing relationship with off-site response organizations and to provide effective emergency response capacity to our community.

“We work with the counties on a daily basis,” said Flores. “We dedicate a lot of time to each other planning, preparing and conducting drills. Ultimately, whether an emergency is radiological, terroristic or weather-related like last year’s tornado, we all know our roles and responsibilities and have resources that each group can utilize.”

Through Comanche Peak’s commitment to emergency preparedness, the plant’s team constantly exercises emergency plans and procedures, upgrades response facilities and equipment, and conducts responder training and drill programs to maintain proficiency. By working with local and state public safety partners,Comanche Peak ensures that the response capability is both comprehensive and well integrated to ensure public health and safety.
