About Luminant Scholar Program
The 2011 scholarship contest will kick off in August and scholarships will be awarded throughout the fall.
- Each participating fifth-grade student will write a one-page essay under the theme, "How can I help protect the environment?" It is our hope that fifth-grade teachers would also devote some classroom time to discussing the environment as part of this program.
- Each teacher will select the best essay from his/her class, with the winning essay for the district being selected by a representative of the school district's choosing.
- Once a district winner is selected, an award ceremony will be scheduled for the student to receive the $1,000 United States Savings Bond. The local state senator and state representative along with local officials will be invited to participate in the award ceremony.
- All fifth-grade students from the winning class will also receive a Luminant Scholar "Making Texas Shine" T-shirt.
- In December, Luminant representatives will judge all winning entries to select three grand prize recipients. The three elementary schools representing the winning entries will receive a $5,000 grant from Luminant.
