Principles and Policies
The company is committed to being an innovative leader in the management of environmental issues. Leadership requires that in all of our business decisions we seek to practice sustainability and appropriately balance the environmental, economic, and social needs of today without sacrificing the interests of future generations. We believe that environmental sustainability means (1) minimizing our own impact on the natural environment while also (2) finding ways to leverage environmental innovation for business advantage and (3) maintaining effective dialogue with the full range of our stakeholders.
The company is committed to the following principles:
- Compliance. We conduct all of our operations in an environmentally sound manner, satisfying all applicable legal and regulatory requirements, as well as relevant industry codes of practice and company standards.
- Minimization of Impacts. We integrate environmental considerations into our business planning and decision making, working with our customers and business partners to reduce environmental impacts to the maximum extent practicable while preventing pollution and promoting waste minimization and recycling.
- Climate Change. We take prudent steps to voluntarily reduce our greenhouse gas emission intensity and to promote carbon sequestration programs.
- Renewable Energy. We encourage research and development of more efficient, environmentally benign sources of energy and, wherever warranted by market opportunities, offer our customers the benefits of energy produced from renewable resources.
- Public Reporting. We publicly report annually on our environmental progress and accomplishments taking into account reporting standards and best practices.
- Stakeholder Dialogue. We reach out to our stakeholders engaging with them to help refine and broaden our understanding and application of more sustainable environmental practices.
- Research. We continue to support environmental research to identify sustainable business solutions. To carry out these principles, we maintain effective Environmental Management Systems to manage our environmental obligations and deliver continuous performance improvement, including the periodic review of environmental objectives and targets. All such Environmental Management Systems within the company are based on the ISO 14001 international standard.
